When leaders are not being inspired, leaders eventually get to lower their performance and enthusiasm for their work and team members. The following list is the most common practices that a good leader should avoid.

  1. Hire just to fill a position without any rigorous process to hire only the best
  2. Have an unclear vision for the future and/or change the vision very often
  3. Inform their team how to achieve their goals
  4. Keep the plan close in case they want to change it
  5. Maintain control over consequences and avoid personal accountability
  6. Look for wrong behaviors and punish members about it
  7. Generate obstacles to getting work done
  8. Ignore minor performance issues
  9. Talk more than listen
  10. Talk about the values from each team but making conclusions using “real business criteria”
  11. Obtain personal recognition for the team’s successes
  12. View team members as substitutable parts of a business
  13. Care about outcomes only
  14. Concentrate on profits only
  15. Have a communication using the ‘no news is good news’ philosophy
